Disney's “Alice in Wonderland” franchise has a rich literary and visual history.  For James Bobin's “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” Blur created a main on end sequence that drew inspiration from that legacy.

Alice's journey continues after the film, when a nautical map of Underland comes to life. With Absolem the butterfly as our guide, we fly through whimsical paper architecture created from maps and Alice literature. Within this world, we find beloved Underlandian friends illustrated in Sir John Tenniel's unique Victorian style.

These friends engage in various tea parties across Underland, illuminating character quirks to sweet effect. For the finale over a paper chessboard, all friends unite for a final toast, leading us to a heartfelt dedication to Absolem's voice actor, Alan Rickman.

I got to pitch to Jon Favreau for this pitch and we won! The end result was quite different, but these are some original frames that helped win the pitch. Jon Favreau said these frames sparked joy for him. : )

Originally the direction was to create a Spaghetti Western/ Kurosawa inspired main on end, where a man with no name enters a mysterious new town. Each episode had its own color palette, based on the planet the episode featured.

Blur created the end titles to this blockbuster as an artful, abstract tease for superhero fans. Six different Spider-Man foes were showcased in a mysterious, macro perspective revealing subtle hints of what audiences might expect from the “Sinister Six” spin-off film.

The lovely folks at Gearbox Entertainment enlisted us to develop a summary of the Homeworld 1 and 2 narratives to ready players for the next installment of Homeworld 3. We employed a painterly look that mixed iconic concept art with the anime aesthetic of Akira and Ghost in the Shell. A color story of warm desert tones transitioning towards cool water tones helped tell the story of the great exodus of the Kushan people from Kharak to Hiigara.

GET READY FOR THE VAMPIRE APOCALYPSE

CHALLENGE: CREATE A BLOCKBUSTER FOR YOUR EARS

When Audible returned for Season 2 of their hit apocalyptic vampire series, they requested a campaign that would deliver on their strategic positioning of “a blockbuster for your ears” and “prestige listening.” They also wanted to explore the thrilling story of the two Dunraven sisters, one human, one vampire, and their tangled dual destinies. But honestly they had us at “hello.”

OUR APPROACH: FOCUS ON COMPELLING SISTER STORY AND EXPAND THE UNIVERSE VISUALLY

Our approach was to A) show the contrasts between the two sisters and B) display the epic scope of their worlds...from a crumbling castle in England, to an abandoned military base in the UK, to the mountains of Dubrovnik where the ancient Vampire council is based. These worlds are connected through the sisters’ shared bloodlines that serve as roads which reveal each others’ (sometimes unwanted) destinies.

From Bungie, a series of Destiny pieces to acquaint the player with where he/she stands in the Destiny universe.

Narcolepsy becomes humanized and sympathetic in this piece sponsored by WebMD. We used the sunflower as a metaphor for Judy’s (our subject) sunny personality, as well as the sunflower’s distinct look when the sun goes down (as if the flower has fallen asleep.) We also created visual looks to contrast Judy when awake and when asleep, creating a dreamscape of sorts. By the end of the piece, Judy’s advocacy causes many others like herself (in the guise of sunflowers) to join her, giving her a welcome respite to the isolation of the disease.

THE JODY ARIAS STORY

Discovery +’s documentary is the untold story of notorious true crime figure Jodi Arias. We begin with the public’s perception of Jodi, and then sympathize with her by the end. The use of water condensation in the shower (inspired by the crime scene) is used in 3 ways in the trailer: 1) Design motif/ thread throughout 2) A means to “slut shame” Jodi with epithets in the beginning and 3) Jodi’s tears by the conclusion.

Created at Mocean. Using negative space and a minimal aesthetic, we told stories about the characters. Nadja has a decapitated lover. Nandor needs his teddy bear. And Colin is an energy vampire who sucks the energy out of people in his boring NY job.

The film-makers wanted a modern, finger snapping celebration for the main on end, reflecting Migos’ catchy song “My Family.” We were inspired by a green-spray painted “makeover” in the film, and used that as a visual thread to unite all of the characters stylized in a pop art, neon palette. Watch for easter eggs of the character “What.”

This ABC series features tough as nails CIA operative Lauren Cohan in a love/hate relationship with soft-hearted FBI agent Scott Foley. Our main title sets up the duality of their relationship in a snappy black and white, Saul Bass inspired aesthetic. The MT also features a metaphorical whiskey glass half empty, or half full. ABC also used these graphics in their promo campaign. I got to sneak in as a corpse in the created by credit.

Miss Winfrey's move from Chicago to Hollywood meant a new swanked out office for OWN.  We created a completely computer generated living 3 story beautiful tree rendered during various times during the day, that runs through the heart of the new space.  We also created "living art" for the lobby wall that greets employees and visitors with inspirational quotes and breathable spaces.

FX Networks called on Blur to develop a monumental destination for  their  movies.  Completely comprised of the network's signature X, the  environments exude a highly polished production value that is synonymous  with the brand.  The project expanded to include a comprehensive promo  package that encompassed dramas and comedies, transitional elements  for  hero spots, and a series of FX Originals opens that precede  critically  acclaimed shows Rescue Me, Damages, and Louie.

Montage Music: Icona Pop "All Night"

WE MADE IT! Kids created it for themselves at Nickelodeon’s epic slimefest hosted this year by big kid Nick Jonas. Blur celebrated kid-centric DIY culture and took it to the next level with monumental scale and stop motion effects. We honored the curiosity and wonder that only kids have and doused it with a giant tub of slime in an extensive awards package, taxi toppers, and advertising billboards leading up to the event.

A Christmas special for two of Disney's most popular shows.  We created a co-family popup holiday card to celebrate the event.

The paper airplane was our touchstone from the original Boy Meets World main title, and symbolizes Riley's coming of age.  In this new Disney main title, our heroine catches the paper airplane that has been soaring throughout New York City, and then throws it back out to us.
